Get trained to use the Breakserspace's scanning electron microscopes! 

All trainings take place one-on-one or in small groups with a Breakerspace laboratory assistant. Completion of a training session for an instrument will provide one with login access to that instrument via an instrument reservation or walk-ins anytime during laboratory open hours. Completion of one's first training session with the Breakerspace will provide tap access to the laboratory as well as the Breakerspace lounge and coffee machines. 

This scanning electron microscope training provides instruction on the following:

• A broad overview of how the instruments work and the kinds of characterization they can perform
• How to prepare samples for characterization
• Formal procedures to ensure appropriate use of the instruments
• Basic instrument operations including:
  •           Preparing samples
  •           Loading/unloading samples
  •           Starting up/shutting down the instruments and logging into their software
  •           Adjusting the magnification, focus, and brightness
  •           Adjusting the electron acceleration voltage, dectector type, and vacuum pressure
  •           Taking/viewing/exporting photos
  •           Other important miscellaneous operations
• A few advanced operations including:
  •           Changing display averaging and image acquisition settings
  •           Element identification
